    4. Well, the big question here is who is concealing the most secrets, Scottie or Michael One after another, they re revealed to us The newlywed couple has come to Siena, Italy, 11 years after the end of WWII They know so little about each other, and most of what they think they know is wrong I felt for Scottie when she first arrives In Siena Years ago, a group of us rented a house in Pontassieve While most of the gang made their way from Florence to the house via train, the landlady and I spent a f [...]

    6. The Italian Party is a smart, sharp, and satiric take on 1950s American culture and politics The newlyweds were picture perfect American ideals in the flesh Michael, twenty four, a handsome, well dressed man who shaved four times a day, and twenty year old Scottie, Vassar educated, beautiful, blond haired, and dressed in pearls, heels, gloves, hat and girdle and underarm perspiration guards Their whirlwind courtship and quick marriage was secretly a marriage of convenience for them both The brid [...]

    7. THE ITALIAN PARTY is that rare contemporary novel that manages to entertain and stimulate thought at the same time I was engaged in this book from the very beginning and it never let me down It was able to charm me with its descriptions of the Italian countryside and its people, while also sending its message that America s role abroad is many shades of gray as is our political behavior. The young couple at the center of the novel started a relationship based upon mutual deceit and as their innoc [...]

    8. 9. 4.5 007 Spy StarsEnter the beautiful countryside of Italy in the mid 1950 s with our newlyweds, Michael and Scottie, picture perfect and just graduated from prestigious colleges They re on a mission to celebrate their new and quick marriage, and live a wholesome life in Siena, Italy Michael, as a Ford employee, selling shiny new tractors to Italian farmers, and Scottie, well she ll just be the best wife and homemaker ever Of course this sounds ridiculous, they both have secrets, and Michael real [...]

    10. I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for my candid review. What a thoroughly enjoyable, but thought provoking book. The book takes place in Italy in 1956 when a young, new CIA operative and his recent wife are sent to Siena Italy by the CIA The man s mission is to do all in his power to prevent the Communists from gaining a stronghold in Italy The story is at time serious, at times delightful, sometimes almost farcical The book really asks some questions about the US s role in mani [...]

    11. 3.5 Stars The Italian Party started off great with a funny scene with the car as they arrived in their new town, Siena Italy I wanted of those humorous travel scenes I liked the secrets and mystery that Scottie and Michael had in their marriage The characters in the Italian city are a fun group too The idea of this book is great showing how Americans viewed other countries and tried to push its ideas onto citizens all over the world The only part that was difficult for me was following the poli [...]

    12. Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review In the first few pages as the main characters, a newly married couple, were being introduced, I thought to myself, oh no, I don t think I am going to be able to like these people Then quite quickly, everything shifted, and it was off to the races This book was very entertaining We have all read about WWII in Italy, from Hemingway, to yesterday But what went on after You will find one slice of that life here, tragic, romantic, redemptive [...]

    13. I won a copy of this book in a giveaway.I have no idea how to rate this book I do feel for the characters, and worry for them, and like them, and I wish the world and the author were a bit kinder to Michael, but the author and her writing style do not make it easy to love this book This is an extreme case of tell not show, with random factoids bluntly shoved into an otherwise delicate and congenial narrative It reads like your 20 year old girlfriend has come back from a summer in Italy and wants [...]

    14. Thank you so much to for giving me the opportunity to read this on point look at Italy and it s many customse author really captured italian life in a small Siena town as seen through the eyes of two newly wed Americanslots of secrets and lies

    15. My Review of The Italian Party by Christina LynchChristina Lynch, Author of The Italian Party has written an enjoyable, unique, satire and fictional story The Italian Party in no way really means a celebration It actually refers to the Italy about 10 years after World War Two, while there are controversial political parties. The author describes her characters as complex, and complicated Everyone has secrets, lies, omissions, and betrayals For example, Scottie and Michael are newlyweds, but know [...]

    16. There is something so lovely about Tuscany I ve been obsessed with the region as a setting since Frances Mayes Under the Tuscan Sun and this book does the area justice The 1950s glamour really shines as well in this environment. The intrigue and espionage of the story is quick paced and enjoyable It s really served well by the dual voices of the protagonists I love multiple points of view in fiction and Lynch did a fantastic job at giving both characters their own unique voices I liked the story [...]

American newlyweds Michael and Scottie Messina arrived in Siena Italy in 1956, ostensibly to open a Ford tractor outlet, exposing the Italian rural community to the wonders of American culture Each of them have secrets, not the least of which is that Michael is actually a CIA operative whose mission is to prevent Italy from adopting Communism in the volatile political atmosphere of the 1950s.Although this particular story line would never have made it to the big screen in the 1950s, I thought th [...]

    19. I received a copy of The Italian Party as part of an ARC giveaway in exchange for an honest review This book took me a bit longer than average to get through It was a good read, but a lot of the moments that could have potentially been shocking or had a intense outcome fell flat for me It just seemed like some of the moments got brushed over, for me personally Scottie and Michael are newlyweds that move to Italy for Michael s job The couple barely know anything about each other and both are hi [...]

    20. I got this book as a Giveaway from I liked the writing The way the many characters revealed themselves to each other was perfectly paced The differences between the US and Italy were used to contrast the operations of the CIA versus the Communists The Italians like to enjoy life and try to vote for a government that lets them do that I ended up hoping that Scottie and Michael succeed in the arrangement that is their marriage.

    23. This is a 2 star book for me The first few chapters caught my interest, but by the time the appliances were delivered to the couple s new house, I had lost interest Who in their right minds buy appliances in the US, ships them overseas to be used in a foreign country without checking to see if they would work At that point, I knew the rest would be sometimes funny, sometimes believable, but a farce all the same While I finished the book and would try something else by this author, I cannot recom [...]
